Now the chair is uncomfortable. Your clothes suddenly feel weird. Somebody nearby is chewing too aggressively. A child is running laps around a table at full speed. The overhead lights are doing entirely too much. Meanwhile everybody else seems completely fine somehow.

The worst part is trying to pretend the vibe is not wrong after your brain already decided it is. At that point you’re not even participating anymore. You’re just mentally calculating how early you can leave without looking strange. Sometimes you’ll even try moving to a different part of the room like maybe the bad vibe only exists near the bathrooms or something. It never works.
Restaurants are dangerous for this. Especially the ones that look calm online and then you walk in and discover there’s live acoustic music happening six feet away from your table for absolutely no reason. And honestly sometimes there is no explanation at all. A place can just feel incorrect. That’s it. That’s the scientific term. Incorrect. At some point you stop trying to force yourself to enjoy places that immediately drain all your internal batteries. Sometimes the best decision is honestly just leaving and getting food somewhere else where the lights are not attacking people.
